Real talk
The 20 minutes she forgot about screens
Paint Pens are built for the exact moment you need it: quick to start, impossible to mess up, and actually fun to clean. No water bowls to spill, no paint-soaked clothes, no learning curve. She squeezes, colours appear, masterpiece done.
Parents tell us their child reaches for these first when the tablet habit creeps in. You get proof that screen time isn't the only way to hold her attention.

What's in the box
What arrives at your door
Everything ready to paint. No batteries, no mixing, no fuss.
Paint Pens set
Squidgy brush-tip bottles filled with washable, vibrant paint. Designed so little hands can squeeze with control, not force. Every pen has the same soft grip, so she's building hand strength without knowing it.
- ✓ Brush tips for smooth, easy application
- ✓ Washable ink cleans off skin and clothes
- ✓ Soft squidgy bottles sized for 3-7 year old hands
Position, squeeze, colour
No instructions needed. Place the brush on paper, give a gentle squeeze, and watch colours bloom. Works on paper, card, most surfaces. The whole thing takes 2 minutes to explain, then she's off.
- ✓ Works immediately, zero setup time
- ✓ One-handed squeeze means no second adult needed
- ✓ Colours stay vivid, don't fade as they dry
Brush tips that don't split
Unlike felt markers, these brush tips stay soft and intact through dozens of uses. They don't dry out if left uncapped for an hour (life happens). Washable means cleanup is running water, not scrubbing.
- ✓ Brush tips last through seasons of painting
- ✓ Washable ink removes with soap and water
- ✓ Colours don't stain permanently if accidents happen

While they play
What painting quietly teaches
Looks like play. Works like a lesson.
Hand grip and control
Squeezing the brush-tip bottle strengthens the small muscles she needs for writing. Painting becomes hand-strength training she actually wants to do.
Colour mixing and choice
Watching two colours blend on paper teaches cause-and-effect. She learns decisions matter, without the stakes of 'wrong' answers in art.
Focus without screens
Painting holds attention for 15-25 minutes naturally, no algorithm pushing for the next tap. Real flow, not engineered engagement.
Confidence through making
Every brush stroke produces a visible change. Instant feedback, instant proof she made something. That matters more than you might think.

Questions & answers
Answers to the questions parents ask
What age are these actually for?
Ages 3-7 is the sweet spot. At 3, she learns to squeeze and watch colour appear. By 6-7, she's mixing colours deliberately and painting with intention. They work fine beyond that, but most children move to finer-tip tools by Year 2.
Will the ink stain her clothes?
The ink is fully washable. If she paints her sleeve, soap and water removes it completely. It won't set permanently like marker does, and we've never had a parent report ruined clothing. That said, give her a painting shirt or let her paint in a smock if that eases your mind.
How long does a set actually last?
One set will serve a child for 2-3 years of regular painting. Brush tips don't fray, ink doesn't run out in a month. Many families still have their set working five years on. That's why the cost-per-year is pennies compared to replacing dried-out markers every term.
Is this a gift I can order and have arrive in time?
Yes. Order by 2pm Monday-Friday and it arrives Tuesday or Wednesday. The packaging is a gift in itself, Jaques signature branded box, ready to wrap. Birthday panic buyers say it saved them more than once.
How much does it cost?
The Paint Pens is £8.79 today (down from £17.99). Klarna is available at checkout if you prefer to spread the cost.
What's your returns policy?
30 days, full refund, no conditions. Return it for any reason and we refund in full. We've been standing behind what we make since 1795.

Our story
Making toys worth keeping since 1795.
Jaques of London was founded in 1795. We invented croquet, table tennis, and the Staunton chess set. For 230 years, we've been making things that pull children away from passive entertainment and into active, curious, hands-on play.
We built Paint Pens because we watched nursery teachers reach for them before anything else. They needed something that works immediately, doesn't require an adult to manage, and actually holds a child's attention for more than 90 seconds. Solid brush tips, washable ink, grips sized for small hands, and a bottle soft enough for a 3-year-old to squeeze without your help. It's what we'd give our own grandchildren.
Toys and games that leave something behind: a skill, a memory, a piece of play that gets passed on.
