Real talk
20 minutes without the iPad, and she actually drew instead
Most travel sets are one-use novelties. This one gets played with for months because the pages wipe clean and the pens don't dry out. Your child draws, you wipe, they draw again. No paper waste, no screen guilt, no 'are we there yet' every 5 minutes.
You get back 20 quiet, focused minutes. Your child gets real fine motor practice and the confidence that comes from making something repeatedly.

While they play
What she's quietly learning while she draws
Looks like play. Works like a lesson.
Pen control
Repeated drawing on the same pages builds the fine motor grip she'll need for writing. No pressure, no stakes, just practice.
Focus and patience
20 minutes of uninterrupted creative play strengthens attention span in an age of swipes. She forgets to ask for the tablet.
Confidence in creation
Wipe, restart, try again. She learns that mistakes are part of the process, not an ending. That's how real artists think.
Imagination on tap
A blank page and 8 colours is an open invitation. No app telling her what to do next. Just her and the pen.

Questions & answers
Before you buy: your questions answered
How do I know this is right for my 4-year-old?
This set is built for ages 3-7. The chunky pens are sized for small hands, and the 6 wipe-clean pages give endless practice without pressure. If you're buying for a birthday or as a gift for a grandchild, this is the one. The doodle book keeps working because the pages don't wear out and the pens stay responsive.
Do the pens dry out? How long will they last?
No. The pens are capped and stored inside the pad, so they stay moist. Parents report them lasting through multiple holidays and passed to younger siblings without replacement. They're non-toxic and designed to work with wipe-clean surfaces, so they perform the same way on draw 1 and draw 500.
What if it arrives damaged or doesn't arrive when promised?
We ship within 2-3 business days and back that with 30-day returns, no questions asked. If it arrives damaged, contact us immediately and we'll replace it. If you need it by a specific date, let us know at checkout.
Is this worth the price compared to a paper pad or cheap plastic version?
Yes. Paper pads fill up and get thrown away. Plastic doodle boards have pens that clog and pages that ghost. This one wipes clean after every use, the pens never dry out, and it lasts for years. Parents say it's passed on to younger siblings and cousins. Worth every penny full price. Catherine McCulloch called it a perfect gift for any child's birthday.
How much does it cost?
The Animal Travel Art Set - Doodle Book is £11.99 today (down from £20.99). Klarna is available at checkout if you prefer to spread the cost.
What's your returns policy?
30 days, full refund, no conditions. Return it for any reason and we refund in full. We've been standing behind what we make since 1795.

Our story
Making toys worth keeping since 1795.
Jaques of London was founded in 1795. We invented croquet, table tennis, and the Staunton chess set. For 230 years, we've been making things that pull children away from passive entertainment and into active, curious, hands-on play.
Jaques has made toys since 1795 because we believe play is where children learn to think. The Animal Travel Doodle Book isn't fancy, it's useful. Wipe-clean pages so there's no waste. Pens that don't clog. A weight in the hand that feels like it'll last. We design for parents who want their children off screens and into real creative thinking, and for grandparents buying a gift for a child they don't see every day. This one gets played with for months, not weeks.
Toys and games that leave something behind: a skill, a memory, a piece of play that gets passed on.
