Teacher Tips for the New School Year

Returning to school in January is always the perfect opportunity for a new start for your kids. Whether it be returning with a renewed determination to succeed or more specific goals, such as nailing the 6x table, it is the ideal time for renew your little learner’s love for learning.

Here are our 5 top tips for returning to school with determination and positivity in the new year.

Tip 1:

Make sure your little learners are as prepared as possible for the new year. If your kid’s class teachers have provided you with termly timetables, print them out and stick them on the fridge so your kids can see them and have a rough idea of the lessons they will be having and when. Remind your kids of topics they will be covering throughout the year and goals/targets they have been set by teachers so far – if you do not have this information, most schools should be able to provide this for you.

Tip 2:

Ensure your kids have all the necessary equipment for returning to school; a pencil case brimming with pencils, erasers and sharpeners, a water bottle, PE kit… the list goes on! This will avoid any unnecessary stress on the first day back.

Tip 3:

Use Jaques of London blogs to find educational content to support your kids. Many of our blogs contain free downloadable educational resources which have the intention of helping your kid's educational development as well as being tonnes of fun! We have covered a range of subject areas including times tables, telling the time and writing inspiration.

Tip 4:

Get your kids to write down a list of things they love about school and the subjects they love, as well as academic and personal achievements. Then move onto targets that your little learner would like to set themselves at school as well as areas they wish to improve on.

Tip 5:

The most important tip of all is to have fun. Learning, and anything educational, should always be enjoyable. After all, none of us concentrate on something we do not find entertaining or interesting. Teachers are trained to make sure lessons are age-appropriate and provide a suitable level of challenge as well as being enjoyable. However, if your kids are really interested in a topic being studied at school, they may well wish to do projects around the topic at home or might like the opportunity to share what they have been learning with the family. Once imaginations are captured, success is inevitable.

From all of us at Jaques of London, we wish your little learners all the success in the world for the rest of the academic year. If home-schooling becomes a necessity once more, Jaques of London will support you with tips and tricks for home learning success.
