Happy Families was invented by Jaques in the 1880's and consist of a set of playing cards featuring illustrations of fictional families of four. There are 12 families giving a total number of cards of 48.
Happy Families famous illustrations were created by Sir John Tenniel, chief illustrator of Punch magazine and the original artist for Lewis Carrol's Alice in Wonderland. The instantly recognisable faces of Mr Grits the Grocer, Mr Bun the Baker and all the other families have made Happy Families into a worldwide success.
Happy Families is easily played by people of all ages. These vividly imagined characters are still selling strong now more than a hundred years later.
