Have a Question?
Yes. Jaques of London designed and made the first Staunton chess set in 1849, and it remains the world standard for tournament play. Our 1849 Edition sets are still made to the original pattern, in boxwood and ebony, cased in mahogany or leather.
The great majority of our games are crafted from solid, sustainably sourced wood, finished with non-toxic paints and lacquers. They are made to be played hard, passed down and played again. Where a set uses other materials, the listing says so plainly.
Chess, backgammon, croquet, dominoes, mah jongg, cribbage, bagatelle, shut the box and more. Our Traditional Games collection is where to start. Many customers buy the same set their grandparents owned.
Order before 1pm Monday to Friday and we process your order the same day. Orders placed after 1pm, on weekends or on bank holidays are processed the next working day. Remote areas can carry a bespoke delivery cost, confirmed at checkout.
Yes. You have 30 days from purchase to return any item, unused and in its original packaging. Contact our customer service team and they will send you the returns guide. Return postage is not covered, but the process is simple.
All of our products, including materials and paints, are EC and UKCA safety tested by an independent testing house. A Jaques game is made for every generation at the table.
