World Children's Day 2020

Today is World Children’s Day!

At Jaques, we think children are the most important part of our family. That’s why we want to focus on celebrating World Children’s Day 2020.

It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to good education.

 – Nelson Mandela

Did you know?

November 20th is an important date because in 1959 the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. Then, in 1989, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

This year, the COVID-19 crisis has resulted in a child rights crisis. The effect of a pandemic for a child could last a lifetime. It’s time for us to bridge the generational gap by coming together and reimagining the type of world we want to create.

What needs to happen

The biggest thing on the wish list right now is UNICEF's Six-Point Plan for the government to Protect our Children. The first point on the plan is close to our hearts. It involves ensuring that all children learn.

So, what does this mean exactly? It means that we need to recreate the future of learning so that we can live in a world where every child is given the chance to lead. This involves closing the digital divide, and that means giving all children access to better learning.

Closing the digital divide between low poverty and high poverty schools is important, but some results have shown that frequent use of software & computer-based learning (especially for reading) is correlated negatively with achievement. That's why we believe that computer-based learning in the classroom needs to accompany real play learning at home.

Playing our part

Here at Jaques, we are firm advocates of Montessori Toys education and that’s why all our toys are designed by UK Teachers. Learning through play is at the centre of everything we do.

Our Let’s Learn range of toys is specifically educational and has been designed to make learning fun. The range of educational games and toys features spelling games, counting games, craft sets, teaching clocks, motor skills toys and reversible magnetic boards to name a few.

The power of education is at the heart of Jaques of London and we are firm believers in the developmental opportunities that our toys and games offer. Learning should always be fun, as well as encouraging independent thought, creativity and removing boundaries.

Get Involved

We hope that you take the time to browse our educational toys and games. These have been designed to inspire curiosity, which leads to child-initiated learning. Our toys and games are suitable for primary school children and for home-schooling as well as the classroom.
