Toy of the Week - Week 1

Now, we know it is a little early, but here at Jaques we simply couldn’t wait any longer to star talking about Christmas! After all, it’s only 12 Weeks til Christmas! In the run-up to the Festive Season, Jaques will be announcing a Top Toy every week giving you lots of tips and tricks about the benefits the toy has on your children’s development!

Puzzle Power

This week’s Toy Of The Week for ‘Problem Solving’ is the Rainbow shape sorter puzzle. Developed by UK teachers, this has been lovingly created in the UK for your little ones. This beautifully crafted kids shape toy is great for toddlers as they LOVE brightly coloured designs. As a shape sorter toy, it is not only good for your children to engage in play but bundles of fun.

The wooden shape puzzle gives a fun spin on traditional shape sorting toys in that it works a lot like nesting dolls—an incredibly satisfying and unique puzzle for young kids to get their hands on. The shapes are constructed out of solid 100% FSC Approved Wood, so it’s a high quality toy that makes a great Christmas gift for kids aged 3 years and up.

Top Toy Benefits

Use our wooden puzzle to teach your kids the valuable skill of problem solving! Problem solving is a life skill that your children will need as they grow. In schools, children are presented with a range of problems to solve in all subject areas, including mathematics. Problem solving skills are made up of the following…

  • Logical thought – your little learners will draw on everything they already know and apply it to unfamiliar areas.
  • Reasoning – this is when you think of lots of different ways to solve a problem, thinking carefully about the ‘how’ and the ‘why’.
  • Resilience – this refers to your little ones ability to keep trying and persevering even if they do not achieve their goal straightaway.
  • Thinking of several solutions – this essentially is the ability to come up with a plan of action as well as backup plans of action to solve a problem!

When solving problems, your kids will develop other valuable attributes, such as self-confidence, the ability to express themselves and a growing bank of methods to try when carrying out problem solving activities.

Other benefits of our gorgeous rainbow puzzle include…

  • Colour recognition
  • Introduction to shape and geometry
  • The ability to stack and sort objects appropriately
