Christmas Writing Opportunities for Kids

After the excitement of Christmas Day has passed, it can be difficult to engage your little learners in anything remotely educational. However, Christmas provides the perfect opportunity for learning, particularly in writing. Use the excitement and hype surrounding Christmas Day as an opportunity to writing.

Our fully qualified teacher, Miss Gravenell, has compiled 3 writing tasks which are perfect for Christmas time; use your kid’s excitement and happiness during this festive period to develop their educational skills.

Activity 1: Festive Picture Prompts

We have compiled some lovely photographs which can be used as a fantastic stimulus for creative writing. Use these photos to give your little learners inspiration for writing their own story. The difficulty a lot of children face with writing is lack of inspiration and difficulty in coming up with story plots. Images and photos are a superb way to ignite imaginations and give structure and purpose to your little writer’s stories.

Activity 2: Thank you Letters

What better to express gratitude at Christmas than writing a traditional thank you letter!? Christmas is all about being thankful for the loved ones in your life and saying thank you, not only for Christmas gifts and cards, but for the time, effort and care you have invested in each other during the year. We have provided a letter template for your little ones to use as inspiration when writing their Christmas letters.

Activity 3: Christmas Recounts

Why lose the magic of Christmas day? Capture the magic and treasure it forever by getting your little ones to write a recount of their Christmas day; record their favourite moments, their favourite food item on their Christmas plate, the best present they received and why – the list is endless. Getting kids writing is SO important and, as with all things educational, writing should always be fun to get the best results!
