Jaques has invented some of the worlds most loved and popular games, including Snakes and Ladders, Happy Families and Tiddledy Winks.
It is of no surprise that the company that invented Happy Families has been passed down, father to son, for seven generations.
The distinctive illustrations that adorn a packet of Jaques Happy Families were drawn by Sir John Tenniel, famously chief cartoonist at Punch and illustrator of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.
Pachisi, a precursor of Jaques Ludo, was played by the Mughal emperors of India using costumed dancers instead of pieces.
The board itself is an exact copy of the original board game design and features a circular route (as opposed to the side-to-side game route which became more common in later years). Each handmade board comes with four wooden playing discs. This board game is a must for any family wanting to own a piece of Jaques history and re-live a bygone era.
