The radical lightweight, steel-shafted badminton racket designed by John Jaques IV in 1950 illustrates Jaques longstanding commitment to scientific design principles in its sporting products
John Jaques II’s game of Croquet took the world by storm, with matches in far flung Russian provinces to Abraham Lincoln’s Cabinet playing on the White House lawn.
Established in 1795, Jaques London is one of a handful of companies over 200 years old still in the hands of the original owner’s family.
Jaques London might not exist today if not for the miraculous survival of the original Jaques pattern book, the blueprint for every game ever made by the company, when the London factory was destroyed in the Blitz.

Luxury Quality badminton Set

Jaques have been making badminton sets for over 100 years. The beginnings of Badminton can be traced to mid-18th century British India, where it was created by British military officers stationed there. Early photographs show Englishmen adding a net to the traditional English games of battledore and shuttlecock. Being particularly popular in the British garrison town Poona (now Pune), the game also came to be known as Poona. Initially, balls of wool referred to as ball badminton were preferred by the upper classes in windy or wet conditions, but ultimately the shuttlecock stuck. This game was taken by retired officers back to England where it developed and rules were set out. As early as 1860, Isaac Spratt, a London toy dealer, published a booklet, Badminton Battledore - a new game, but unfortunately no copy has survived. The new sport was definitively launched in 1873 at Badminton House, Gloucestershire, owned by the Duke of Beaufort. During that time, the game was referred to as "The Game of Badminton," and thereafter the game's official name became Badminton. Our finest badminton set, this 4 player Challenge Badminton set is perfect for the whole family. The Challenge badminton set includes steel posts, all-weather deluxe badminton net with guy ropes, 4 superb Jaques' alloy head rackets, and 3 heavy weight outdoor Badminton shuttles. The whole se is presented in a beautiful wooden handmade box.
