Not only is Croquet a great game for playing with friends in the garden, the game of croquet has also been played competitively around the world since the very early days. Present day croquet competitions include individual croquet tournaments, inter-club croquet events and croquet national championships. The Series that every Croquet player around the world wants to compete in is the Croquet international World championships.
The game of croquet went international in 1925 when the leading Croquet nations began competing in the MacRobertson Shield Croquet Test Series and, since the formation of the World Croquet Federation (WCF) in 1989, World Championship Croquet tournaments have been held each year. Today, apart from the annual World Championship tournaments, there is also an international croquet team event played regularly between the top nations (in 2000 the croquet team of Great Britain won the tournament over the croquet team from New Zealand, the croquet team from the USA and the croquet team from Australia).
There are two main forms of Croquet recognized internationally: Association (or ‘International’) Rules Croquet and American Rules Croquet. However, it is Association Rules Croquet that is predominantly played outside of the US and internationally at the highest levels.
