Luxury Croquet Set

The Championship Croquet Set was the ‘crème de la crème’, and was supplied to many European Royals, including our own Queen Elizabeth II. Following the austere years of the second world war, cinema going became very popular. Most top films were made in Hollywood and the American film stars attained super hero status. Croquet was also growing in popularity, and several famous film stars developed a liking for croquet parties in their luxury homes in Beverly Hills. On quite a few occasions, one of the stars, such as Rock Hudson, Jimmy Cagney, Kirk Douglas, or Steve McQueen, would arrive, sometimes unannounced, at our factory and showroom in Thornton Heath, our then headquarters. It created quite a stir among our workforce! They often chose the Championship Luxury Croquet Set, or sometimes came to have a new personal mallet made for them.

Championship Croquet Set

This set comprises everything you could need for top grade competition croquet. There are four super mallets, two Championship round brass bound models, made of heavyweight tropical hardwood, and two Laser Tuftex LV square mallets made of Lignum Vitae and fitted with Jaques' long life Tuftex faces. All four mallets have hickory handles fitted with super feel Carbotec grips. A set of top Championship balls take their rightful place in the set, together with a set of Championship cast hoops and hoop drill, and a Championship four colour winning post with peg clip. Championship flags, a smasher mallet, yard line pegs, clips, and ball marker pegs are included, and the set is completed with a set of rules and Anton Gill’s 'Illustrated Complete Guide', containing a wealth of interesting croquet information, technical terms, and a great deal of tactical advice. Everything is contained in a beautiful polished traditional wooden box with a special leather Jaques logo label.
