Playing of the game
Each player is in control of one of the two sets normally coloured in white or black. The White generally moves first and then followed by the players alternate moves. Making a move is compulsory and is not legal for a player to "pass" a turn. Play is continued until a king is checkmated, a player resigns, or a draw is declared.

Advance the pawn either 1 or 2 spaces when moving the pawn from its starting rank. The pawn is the only piece on the chess board that can move differently on its initial move.
