THE launch of the 2010 season at Budleigh Croquet Club went ahead despite heavy rain
Once we had inspected the lawns it was obvious that play would not be possible until they had a bit of time to dry out.
It was somehow predictable that once the message had been sent out to members the weather improved!
After hasty discussions it was decided to proceed with the official opening at 2pm using Lawn Number Two with the Exmouth Town Mayor striking the first shot of the new season.
It was a great pleasure to welcome him and his wife and his small, yet delightful, speech was much appreciated by the members who attended.
After the opening shot had been played members were able to get a little practise in.
With a much improved weather forecast for the week ahead, our usual club sessions for Golf Croquet and Association should indeed have been possible yesterday (Wednesday), whilst the two Open sessions scheduled for today (2pm - 4pm) and Saturday (April 10), between 10am and 12 noon, will offer interested visitors the chance to have a go!
There was a most splendid Opening Dinner held on Saturday evening attended by 44 members who wrestled with a selection of Croquet Teasers set by the Chairman!
The start of the season is always full of promise as we resolve to play more and ,indeed, better croquet.
It is also an excellent time for anyone to try the game for the first time as we have our usual Opening Spring Offer of a month's trial membership (including some coaching) for £15.
Just get in touch by phone or by dropping in to the club and leaving a message or talking to one of the members.
